Chapter Twelve
Scarlett
The last couple of weeks have gone by without a lot of excitement. James went to Harrison’s in the day, but he was always home for tea and we spent the evenings together. I worked in the day while he was at work. It surprised me that I was able to concentrate, but I managed it, I even changed my website around a bit too. I took care of his house, tidied up all his post that he always dumped on the kitchen counter; I dusted, hovered and even did his washing. Living for free which I essentially was doing wasn’t something I was comfortable with, but I haven’t tried to give him money because he wouldn’t take it and it would piss him off so instead I cooked tea and did the food shopping when someone was available to go with me. Going out on my own still wasn’t allowed because Ruby was still in the wind. How on earth my sister has managed to keep herself off the radar of police and the assholes after her I don’t know. I’ve stopped worrying as much because I knew she was ok. I’d had a text message telling me so.
Well, actually the message said–Scarlett. Just in case you’re bothered. I’m alive!
At least I knew she was safe.
Sarah came to see me at the weekends; she came here to me at James’ house as she worried something would happen to me if I stepped outside. With James and Matt being in the same frame of mind it was just easier to do as they ordered.
Sarah was having a hard time at work as her boss was being an absolute dick to her. He shouted at her over things that weren’t her fault and she’d had enough. She is a strong woman, but her boss and his attitude was grating on her. He was constantly mean to her and she would catch him glaring at her quite often. She didn’t know what to do. I thought he might be attracted to her because she said she caught him staring at her legs when she sat in his office taking notes one day. He’d noticed her clock him and she swore he’d grinned as he turned away. She didn’t believe he could like her though. She thought I was imagining it because I wanted her to be happy like me.
Then there was Matt. Sarah was shy around him. She also always changed the subject if I brought him up. I didn’t get it, but I thought something might have happened between them. James told me to butt out and leave them to it, and I promised I would try.
Another addition to my life was Tag. Tag works for James at Harrison’s and is such a great guy. He’s on ‘Scarlett duty’ as I called it quite a bit. He’s blond, blue eyed and gorgeous and he knows this and uses it to his advantage a lot, he’s a shameless flirt, even with me.
